Our goals

Although Easter Island is no longer among 100 Top Most Wanted DXCC entities, it IS still most wanted on some bands such like 30 meters as any activity on this band from Rapa Nui is VERY seldom due to a fact a special, temporary license submitted by Chilean Ministry of Telecommunication is obligatory.

XR0Y licenseOur license has been released and granted by Chilean Ministry of telecommunication (aka Subtel) as for foreign members of RCCh. In addition, all operators of XR0Y have their personal, Chilean temporary licenses in hands. Since we fortunately obtained a license for all bands, we decided to dedicate our expedition to 10MHz (cw mode only! Digimodes on 30m are not allowed in Chile), and also 160, 80 and 40 meters.

Our priority will be working Europe on 30 meters CW and also 40 and 80m during first 7 days of the expedition. This means we will pay the most of our attention during the first half of our activity to European takers as there is still incredibly high demand on 30m contacts in that part of the world. This doesn’t mean we will omit the rest of the world, of course! The second part of the expedition will be dedicated to all continents, however we will pay much attention to so frequently omitted Africa and out-of-JA Asia, too. Our time-frame regarding bands/parts of the world mentioned above is a subject to change due to conditions we will find on the air while at the island (for instance starting with all continents for first 7 days or so). More details will be released in prior the DXpedition so check our website frequently!

Our bandplan:

BAND/MODE CW RTTY SSB
160 1.826 up 2-5 EU, up 5-10 NA, dwn 6-11 JA —— 1.843 up
80 3.505 up 2-5 3.580 up 1-5 3.725 up
40 7.005 up 7.034 up 1-3 7.075 up + 7.145 rx NA
30 10.120 up —— ——
20 14.005 up 14.091 up 14.200 up
17 18.073 up 18.102 up 1-5 18.140 up 5-15
15 21.005 up 21.083 up 21.295 up
12 24.893 up 24.923 up 1-5 24.935 up
10 28.023 up 28.085 up 1-5 28.480 up

We plan to activate the island with 3 separate stations utilizing 2x ICOM IC-756 PRO III, 1x ICOM IC-7000, spare IC-706 MKII G, 2 power amplifiers and verticals for 160+80, 40, 30m, 5-band Spiderbeam 20-10m + beverage + a few multiband verticals. Since we expect moderate to low conditions on all bands, our main mode will be CW – the best mode ever for such situations. RTTY activity is planned, too and we won’t omit SSB of course. We will be running N1MM loggers for CW/SSB and MixW for RTTY.

While 3 operators will be running all 3 stations almost 24h a day, the rest of 3 operators will have sufficient time to relax after high pileups and to visit the island entirely. No wonder everyone of us want to meet the island as much as possible. There’s no other place like Rapa Nui in the world!

Since Easter Island is a VERY popular tourist destination, our DXpedition requires special planning – regarding logistics and security. Our QTH will be situated out of the only town at the island – Hanga Roa. Our remote location is a perfect as there will be a total lack of any potential TVI/BCI and our little antenna farm will be fully secured from unexpected visitors exposed to RF fields. Moreover – we will be far away from potential low-band noise of industrial origin. In addition, our location will provide a bit better spot with a take off towards Europe than a typical location at Hanga Roa.

We plan to upload our logs once a day around local midnight or morning hours (so approx. 6.00 or 12 UTC hours).

WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ARRANGE SKEDS NOR REPLY TO E-MAILS DURING THE EXPEDITION. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.
